Coming up on my website – a few changes to help you make the most of it

Coming up on my website – a few changes to help you make the most of it
13 February 2019

Since September last year, you will have received a new column from this website nearly every week.

After an initial period of experimentation and putting my own thoughts into order, you’ll soon see a number of exciting new features on here.

1. Books, e-books and other paid-for special publications

Despite having published two books in the past, sitting down to produce an entire book remains something very special.

Which is why I am delighted to tease my forthcoming 3rd book!

I do want to create an entire series of books dedicated to subjects that tie in with this website’s main topics.

This one will be based entirely on my personal experience in utilising business-friendly jurisdictions to:

  • Legally minimise the amount of taxes you pay.
  • Maximise your level of personal freedom.
  • Build your own business and have a great time along the way.

If you’d like your own life to look a bit more like mine, do follow the opportunities that I outline in this approximately 200-page, hardcopy-only book. It’s already with my editor and will become available on this website during Spring.

2. Launch of a monthly interview series

One of the (few) things I am quite good at is maintaining and growing a relatively extensive network of interesting people from all walks of life and business (connect with me on LinkedIn if you haven’t already [1]).

Many of my personal and professional contacts have inspiring stories to tell, even though they are not the type of person who’d usually attract much media attention in the conventional sense.

My upcoming interview series with those “hidden stars” aims to give them the attention they deserve.

Once a month, I will be interviewing someone who has managed to build the kind of life that many of my readers aspire to. Broadly, this usually includes working outside of conventional corporate employment, enjoying a more substantial amount of freedom to pursue their interests and passions, and being good at figuring out future trends before others recognise them.

Each interview will consist of 10 questions. Since I am not a print publication with restricted space, I’ll be giving each interviewee unlimited space to share great thoughts with us. These will be long-read interviews, first and foremost. I’ll make every effort to give each interview one or the other angle that you’d be hard pressed to find elsewhere (and which will be highly relevant and applicable in real life, too).

If you are looking to get inspired and motivated into action, take note of the (unique, as I hope) content that you will find in these interviews.

3. Events

Throughout my life, I have taken great professional and personal pleasure in organising events that brought interesting people together in a curated environment.

I have organised investor events that took place in London’s elite Annabel’s membership club; research trips to look at business opportunities in developing places like Russia; and pleasure trips to places like the Galapagos Islands or Rwanda to entertain friends and contacts while raising some charitable funds on the side.

Much as I don’t make any money out of these trips itself, I use them to expose myself to new ideas and opportunities. Sometimes, I add a charitable angle to them by making every guest contribute a few ducats to a worthy cause. E.g., last year’s Galapagos diving trip raised $25,000 for Bite-Back Shark & Marine Conservation [2]a charity that I have many good things to say about. [3]

Much as I don’t make any money out of these trips itself, I use them to expose myself to new ideas and opportunities.

Provided my current planning doesn’t get derailed, you’ll soon be reading about the next such trip on this website. You’ll get this info even earlier if you are subscribed to the weekly email list, and these early birds will have a greater chance of nabbing one of the coveted few spaces on these trips (they usually sell out fast).

“SL” is spreading its wings

During its brief existence, this website has already been a mini-success in some ways:

  • Two of my articles went viral and keep getting read all around the world every single month: “One Meal A Day as a tool for productivity and success” [5]and “10 things I learned as CEO of the Charles Darwin Foundation” [6]. It’s fun and deeply satisfying to see far-away places such as Australia, South Africa, and India pop up among the 10 top countries where my website is read. I would never have expected that.
  • Feedback from readers showed me that some of my ramblings have led to career improvements, better business decisions, and the occasional change in personal habits. Nothing is more satisfying than knowing that my writing has actually helped others make concrete, measurable improvements in their life.
  • Despite zero advertising and virtually no significant effort to actively grow my readership numbers, absolute user numbers have been increasing steadily.

The world we live in has more opportunities than ever before to create the kind of life you’d like to live for yourself. Or as I love saying, we are getting approximately 36,000 days on this planet (if we are lucky), and you weren’t born to spend your time pleasing others. There is no better time to take charge of your own destiny than now.

If this website can play a bit of a role in how you chart your course, then that’ll make my writing all the more rewarding!

Do share your thoughts with me if you like, I am always easy to get hold of by sending a message [7].

If you enjoyed reading the article, you’ll probably also enjoy:
